That's me in 2007. Getting grayer everyday ;-)

My name is John Copeland I am a photographer in Las Vegas. I first started photography while a soldier in Vietnam in 1968.  Since that time I have photographed most every imaginable subject.  My favorite subject has always been glamour photography.  I worked as a staff photographer for the US edition of Penthouse magazine during its biggest years from 1978 to 1984 and on the staff of the German edition of Penthouse 1981-1985. During that time I shot dozens of layouts, centerfolds and covers for the American and International editions of Penthouse. I also worked for the German edition of Playboy in 1986-87
In the 80s I photographed dozens of covers for American and German Editions of Penthouse, German Playboy and many other independent mens magazines.
Tommi and Suesi in Kauai - 1980. I shot in Hawaii a lot in the 80's, I wish I would have bought property there back then
In 1984 I moved to Munich Germany where I was the staff photographer for the German edition of Penthouse.
I photographed dozens of centerfolds and covers until leaving to work for the German Playboy in 1986.  They didn't want me to use my name in any other men's magazines, but I was already very involved doing my own productions, so I began licensing to publications under a variety of pseudonyms. Playboy was not a good place for me to work and it did not work out.  I was used to having a lot of creative control and at Playboy there were a lot of editors, assistant editors, art directors and assistant art directors.  It was anyhow a great experience and I shot 9 pictorials, 5 gatefolds, and 5 covers for them in the  18 months I worked there.  In 1987 I married Christiné, my best friend and my makeup artist while at Playboy.  She had also worked with me at Penthouse and we had developed a special bond.

In November of 1987 we moved back to Los Angeles.  We took time to get Christiné accustomed to living in the USA and in 1990 set up a commercial studio on La Brea Avenue just south of Hollywood.  I began producing all of my own centerfold layouts and syndicating them to magazines around the world.  It was a great time for this.  Models were readily available and I had many connections for selling limited rights to different magazines around the world. We also did a lot of model headshots, portfolios, portraits and commercial jobs.  With Christiné being such a great makeup artist we found ourselves also doing a lot of Southern California business women.  We would do business "portrait" shoots for their professional use, and then Christiné would give them a glamorous look and I would photograph them as if they were celebrities or models.....something wild and glamorous just  for their personal use.  It was a lot of fun for us and the clients loved the experience.

Katie Johnson in 1994. Still one of my all time favorite fashion shoots. In 1994 after two years of riots, earthquakes, and wild fires, we decided it was time to leave LA.  A friend suggested we go and setup a photography studio in Las Vegas.  We made several trips, found a great house and moved to "Vegas" in June of '94.  It turned out to be a wonderful decision.   We set up a studio just off the Las Vegas strip and went right back into working as we had in LA -- except now as a Las Vegas Photographer.

In 1995 I Got involved in the Internet.
I Began being approached to sell my photos to a bunch of new start-up Internet sites.  I had already licensed large numbers of my Playboy style images from my own productions for some of the first CD of that type in the early 90's, and the royalties had been huge. Having no idea what I was about to get into, I decided to start my own Internet business. I contacted a long time friend who was always looking for new adventures and Pixotna Productions Inc. was born.  It began a new chapter in my life.  Like many at the time, we hoped to become Internet millionaires. That did not happen, however it was an amazing experience to get so deeply involved in such a new and challenging field. It was lot of work, and I found myself shooting less and running the business more. It became all encompassing and from 2000 to 2005 I had little time for photography..

Special Effects Photograpy on Shanna, A Pharmeceutical sales person who really could have been a model...After almost 10 years I left the INTERNET business so I could again devote more time working with Christiné, doing my photography again. I had learned a lot about building and hosting websites .  We still have our own server and I still do hosting and a bit of website design and maintenance for some long time clients as well as doing my photography.  I still enjoy working on computers and the Internet, and I now have more time again for doing my own styles of Glamour Photography here in Las Vegas.  I am a skilled retoucher and enjoy making the subjects of my photos look their absolute best.

When I am not shooting, retouching or working on our websites I am spending as much time as possible going through my 30+ years of photo archives, organizing, cataloging, scanning and restoring early works and preparing them for printing and sale down the line in the fine art, nostalgia, photography market.
